    Presenters:

Lt. Adrienne Eastlake, MS, RS/REHS, NIOSH, Cincinnati, OH

Laura Hodson, MSPH, CIH.  NIOSH, Cincinnati, OH

This class will provide a disciplined process for the responsible management of nanomaterials, which includes: anticipating where nanomaterials may be in the workplace, recognizing the potential for occupational exposures, evaluation of the exposures using a variety of sampling equipment, control based on prevention through design and control banding tools, and confirmation and continual reevaluation of the risk management plan. An example will guide participants through creating a sampling plan, evaluating data, and control recommendation. Using nanomaterial exposure scenarios, breakout groups will create a sampling plan, analyze provided data, and decide if engineering controls should be added to the risk management plan. Participants will be provided information to understand how to apply hazard and control banding for a nanomaterial.

    Presenter Biosketches:

Lt. Adrienne Eastlake, MS, RS/REHS. NIOSH, Cincinnati, OH

Adrienne Eastlake is a Lieutenant with the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. She currently works as an Industrial Hygienist in the Nanotechnology Research Center at NIOSH. Lt. Eastlake provides outreach to the nanomaterial health and safety community through document development, publications, exhibits, presentations and delivery of professional development courses. She has conducted site visits to nanomaterial producing facilities to gain a better understanding of the processes, tasks, possible exposures, and controls that are being used. She is a co-recipient of the AIHA 2015 Edward J. Baier Technical Achievement Award for the nano field team efforts, and an active member of the AIHA Nanotechnology Working Group. Lt. Eastlake received a BS in Natural Resources and Allied Medicine from the Ohio State University and a MS in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Cincinnati. She is certified by the National Environmental Health Association as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist.
